My Most Used Cake Recipe Books!
Written by Nekko

I love Cake books because I get so much inspiration and I have discovered some incredible recipes. In this post I will share with you my most used cake books. I enjoy getting my books from book stores like Barnes & Noble, my local used bookstore or Amazon. When I am in search for a new cake book I like to buy books that I know I’ll use but occasionally I will buy a book just for the looks and inspiration. I hope this post encourages you to buy a cake book and inspires you to be creative!

“The Power of Sprinkles” by Amirah Kassem
One day I went to Barnes & Noble, I found this book and fell in love. I was so surprised to see such a vibrant cake book so I bought it and was so excited to recreate some of the cake designs. I ended up attempting to recreate one of the Valentines heart cakes in the book and it came out terrible. Some would say it wasn’t that bad but I thought it looked terrible because it looked nothing like the cake in the book. This experience was my first time realizing that cake decorating looks a lot easier than it is. Although the cake looked like a beginner cake, it tasted incredible, Amirah has a lovely vanilla cake recipe and cream cheese frosting recipe. I think this is a great cake book for anyone interested in baking cakes!

“Everything Chocolate” & “The Perfect Cake” by Test Kitchen
I’m putting these together because I got them around the same time in 2020. I first received “The Perfect Cake” as a gift and fell in love with the chocolate cake recipe. This was my go-to recipe in addition to the chocolate ganache recipe. To this day I use the carrot cake and pumpkin cake recipes, although I’ve altered them to my own. This book is where my experimenting kicked into gear.
Because I loved “The Perfect Cake” I was ecstatic to find Everything Chocolate since I was so in love with Test Kitchen’s chocolate cake. This book contains so many chocolate recipes for cookies, cakes, croissants, pies and more. I became obsessed with the chocolate crinkle cookies and I made my first batch of caramel with this book!
If you are a beginner, I highly recommend these two books by Test Kitchen. Test Kitchen is a cooking TV show where chefs test a variety of food recipes. I personally have not watched the series but I can say I love their cookbooks!

“Cakes by Melissa” by Melissa Ben-Ishay
Cakes by Melissa is another book I got from Barnes & Noble. Similar to The Power of Sprinkles, it’s a very vibrant book and I love is all of the unique flavor combinations and creativity from Melissa. My favorite recipe from this book was the hot cocoa cake. For a long time I used the chocolate cake recipe from this book because it’s light and buttery. I am still able to get a ton of inspiration from this book.

“American Cake” by Anne Byrn
“American Cake” is the most unique book in my collection. When I saw this at Barnes & Noble I knew I needed it. The history of different American cakes is displayed beautifully and every recipe that I have tried is absolutely delicious. Because of this book I am obsessed with using buttermilk because it has made my cakes unbelievably moist. My favorite recipes from this book are the Ginger Cake and the German Chocolate Cake!

“Anyone Can Cake” by Whitney Depaoli
“Anyone Can Cake” is a more recent book to my collection. I love the layout and the cake designs. When I was browsing this book I really wanted to try the caramel recipe, it’s simple and doesn’t require a thermometer. If you’ve ever tried making caramel with a recipe that requires you to use a thermometer you probably know how stressful it can be! So that’s what sold me and ever since it’s a recipe that I continue to use.
Those are my 6 top used cake books! You can find all of these books on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and you may be able to find some of them at used bookstores. Comment below if you have any of these books or any books you think I should add to my collection. Thank you.
